Beginning in November of 2017, Flamboyan led a nationwide search for the second cohort of the National Family Engagement Fellowship. The learning opportunity equips diverse and collaborative teams with evidenced-based resources, training, and coaching to support them in designing and implementing family engagement strategies in their communities. The five teams represent Atlanta, Dallas, Memphis, Milwaukee, and Utah.
As a result of an expansive recruitment process, 25 teams from 24 states applied. Staff on Flamboyan’s Training and Knowledge Management team – most of whom will serve as one-on-one coaches for the fellows – interviewed 14 teams before making the final selection.
“We are excited to welcome teams to Washington, D.C. in March for the kickoff, where they’ll focus on team building, understanding effective family engagement, including the role race and equity play, and planning for their landscape assessment,” said Diana Suarez, Managing Director of Training and Knowledge Management.
Over the course of the 20-month fellowship, fellows will:
- Build knowledge and skills, particularly around family engagement planning;
- Conduct in-depth analysis and design for their unique context;
- Develop a sustainable, organizational approach for family engagement practice; and
- Join a network of family engagement practitioners.
The inaugural National Family Engagement Fellowship, which consisted of teams from Baltimore, Colorado, Kansas City, Massachusetts, and Nashville, spent nearly a year-and-a-half planning, implementing, and sharing lessons learned about their family engagement work. The teams will continue to receive individual coaching as they roll out their family engagement strategic plans and pilot programs in their communities.
About the National Family Engagement Fellowship:
The National Family Engagement Fellowship seeks to build the capacity of change-makers who are interested in leading the charge for effective, equitable, and educator-led family engagement in their communities. Fellows will participate in a professional learning community with colleagues from around the country. After selection, fellowship teams have access to evidenced-based resources and professional development through coaching and whole cohort convenings, virtually and in-person.
