Ashley Sheppard - Flamboyan

Ashley Sheppard

As Director, School Support, Ashley coaches and supports schools in setting the conditions to implement and sustain equitable family engagement strategies.

Ashley is committed to working in education because knowledge is power. She believes our educational system has the unique responsibility to educate our youth on academic content, but to also teach social-emotional skills that will shape their lives forever.

Prior to joining Flamboyan, Ashley was the Connected Schools Manager at Hart Middle School, providing case management, leadership on family engagement, partnership management, and coordination of mental health services. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Davidson College and Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland, specializing in Macro level practice with a focus on children and families. She is passionate about creating systems that uplift the voices of children and families so that the most vulnerable have access to what they need to fully access their education.

Ashley is a proud mother of 2 and being a mother is her favorite thing in the world. She also loves to travel, box, read, and relax whenever she can. Lastly, she believes that no one achieves their goals alone; it takes a village to lift up children and families, and she feels blessed to be a part of the village of support for families in Washington, DC

My favorite teacher in school was… Mrs. Bivaletz because she went above and beyond to make me feel loved, challenged, and supported. She saw my potential and made sure I had what I needed physically and emotionally to achieve my goals!
